good job on delivering the results from the competition so quickly! one correction, so far, it’s “Bunji” and no “Bunjie” Garlin.

Thank you very much for the prompt posting. I am a broadcaster in Toronto and it was indeed very helpful.

that goes to show that u ppl know nothing about soca music and trini culture on a whole. one of his best performances? are u blind? bunji’s performance was awful and his wife deserved his new title more than he did. all that he planned went wrong- and he commented upon this immediately afterward…

its really to bad that the end results was like this. judges that could properly comment and mark on performance and musical prowess are needed- not those that can only play favourites.

people need to get out of that small island mind’ set and start being a little more intelligent. The competition is not judged solely on the response of the crowd! If that were the case both fayann and shall marshal/kerwin dubois would have clearly won! Its just 10 points for cried response. Shurwayne and bunji clearly deserved to win as they presented their songs the best and their songs had the most content! Start seeing our music as substance filled songs that can educate as well as entertain so that it can grow… We have to get out of thus jump and wave “get on” bad carnival us baccahnal nonsense if our music can even stand a chance of growing. Hats off to shurwayne for a well written and produced groovy soca song… The way it should be.. And hats off to bunji for taking the time to educate the people about one of the greats in calypso music..,, being maestro… And for truly displaying the sweetness of our national instrument the steel pan! They truly deserve their titles!

Including the man who wrote the original version of Firey; the tune Bunji used to become the 2008 Soca Monarch. [...]
